Around 5 years back, we have started our company "QualityPoint Technologies" at Chennai, India.
After 1 year from starting our Chennai Office, we have  started our office in another location at Ottapidaram, tuticorin District.

During the past 5 years time period, we had seen lot of growth in terms of getting customers for our web development services, and we had started many successful web portals like TheQuotes.Net and RtoZ.org. And, we had improved our products (e.g Timesheet, SERP checker) in  various releases. And, we could successfully develop the challenging automatic Resume submission Software which is having huge earning potential. All our Social media profiles are getting good exposure. For example, @MedicalFeed got more than 6K active followers. My linkedin profile got around 4K connections. Our Disscussion Forum and bookmarking applications are also getting good number of active members. Initially we had to depend on few freelance sites for getting work. On those days, we had to do lot of hard work to earn few bucks irrespective of time spent for completing the project.  But, now we have many long time customers who are willing to make good hourly payment. And our Books are becoming best sellers in Amazon. Our YouTube Channel and Feedburner feeds are getting lot of Subscribers.

In summary, we had achieved lot of success in developing our company within this 5 years time period.

But, I find a huge imbalance between the revenue generated from our Chennai Office and  the revenue generated from our Ottapidaram Office. i-e Output from Chennai Office is very low comparing to the output from Ottapidaram Office irrespective of the fact that we had many sincere and harworking employees in our Chennai Office.

 And, I had to spend lot of my time for recruiting employees for our Chennai Office. Because attrition rate is high there. And, most of the selected candidates will not join  as I explained here. Again, I need to spend lot of time for recruitment. But this kind of problem is rare in our Ottapidaram office.  The root cause for this difference is, the mind set or attitude of the people who prefer to join Chennai Office. Many people who are living around Ottapidaram, Tuticorin district also prefer to join Chennai Office. Obviously their attitude is, taking our offer as a way for entering into any corporates which asks some work experience. So, they believe staying in Chennai is important for achieving their Goal. But people who are willing to join our Ottapidaram Office really believe that they can grow with us. It helps them to focus on the work.  And, I can easily train the new recruits in our Ottapidaram Office as I used to stay in Ottapidaram which is my native place.

So I came to the conclusion that  running Chennai Office at this time will not help to reach our vision of becoming Global Technical Leader. And therefore, I have decided to close our Chennai Office.

I believe this decision will help me to save lot of time which can be effectively used  to develop our company further. And, I can run our company more effectively so that customers can get good service at affordable price.

I will continue taking actions that are necessary for achieving our vision while keeping our Values.

For those who are not able to understand the difference between Chennai and Ottapidaram,

Chennai is a city where lot of IT companies are located. i-e  people who stay in Chennai can get lot of opportunity to attend interview in IT companies for getting job with better salary.

Ottapidaram is a village where there is no other IT company available other than ours. Ottapidaram is having its own challenges like power-cut and poor ISP service. (Few days back, BSNL broadband  outage happened for 4 consecutive days. It will never happen in Chennai even for few hours). But comparing to the Employees issue, they are easily manageable. (For example, I can get alternate/backup ISP, use inverter/battery to manage power-cut )

I will be opening our office in Chennai again in 2 or 3 years once after we reach a position which enable us to compete with the corporates to attract/retain good talents with us. I am sure that it will happen soon as per the current growth potential of our company.

Past few days I had done detailed analysis/study about our web development company "QualityPoint Technologies". I did this study from various perspectives like Employees, projects, technologies, clients, HR, pricing approach, marketing plans, own products,... etc.

First of all, I would like to say my "Thanks" to all our customers. Because of the support from our customers we are able to successfully run QualityPoint Technologies 5th year with lot of progress.

Though we had good progress in terms of gaining customers, developing products, launching our own web portals, I still find lot of opportunity in improving our company further. I feel the progress is very slow though it is growing steadily.

I had come up with two important things that need to be improved lot. One is, significant improvements in Employees hiring/training/firing process. I will write separate detailed blog post about it later once after I start implementing it successfully.

The second important thing is, improvement in pricing policy. I will explain about it in detail in this blog post.

In the past 5 years, we had done more than 180 projects for our customers. Apart from these projects we had done small customization works for many of our Timesheet script buyers and SEO Tools buyers.

I understand that I had to quote very less in the beginning so that we can start getting projects. But now I realize that quoting low price is the major cause for the slow growth rate.

Let me explain about it in detail.

- Low price attracts the people who are not having any proper plans for their projects.
- Because of Low price quoting, I find difficulties in retaining the talented employees.
- Customers are NOT valuing our Team's work/time, as they have to pay only very low price. It ultimately breaks the project success.
- The customers who spend less in project development, are not spending any money for promoting their product. Because of this reason, our hard work and skills are NOT getting enough attention. For example, 5 years back, when I start this company we did a project exactly similar to pinterest. Note that pinterest was NOT there at that time. Cloning pinterest is very simple now. But at that time, we had to do lot of hard work to successfully complete the project. We charged less then hundred dollars  for completing the entire project. But the client didn't take steps for promoting it. Pinterest which came after few years get lot of exposure. So, obviously working with low-budget clients didn't give any benefit for us.

So, I had decided to charge our clients at appropriate price instead of blindly charging low price.

Anyway, I respect the value for the money paid by our customers. So, I am NOT going to price very high. And, I will take all the necessary steps to give most valuable work for the each hour of work.

After doing some market study and evaluating our work, I came up with appropriate price of $8 USD per hour of work. Still this price is very less comparing to the many other companies.

I will be charging $8 USD per hour of work starting from July 1st, 2013. Till end of this month our existing customers and people who have already requested for pricing, can pay the current price.


And, we had taken lot of efforts to improve the development strategy and processes so as to improve the speed and quality of development. And, we had come up with lot of script libraries to improve the development speed further.


Apart from doing web development, we do Software testing , SEO/SEM/Social Media promotion/virtual assistance also. The same price is applicable for them also.

I had informed our existing customers about this price change thro' email.

Please note that $8 per hour is applicable for our Team members only. If you want me to work specifically in any complex testing tasks or for any discussion/analysis, I will charge $15 per hour. And, I can spend only 2 or 3 hours per day. Anyway as usual, I will be spending my time without any charge for guiding our team, review their work, help them to understand requirements properly, help them to communicate better, motivate them to work properly, teach them about data security and privacy, remind them to take data backup regularly, and give any technical assistance.

And, recently we had developed few Twitter/Facebook Apps, and newsletter for our own motivational web site TheQuotes.net. If you want similar scripts, We will be able to develop them with minimum efforts, and therefore minimum cost for you.

Personally, I have around 15 years of experience in IT, and past 5 years I am trying out various aspects of online businesses and gathered valuable knowledge about which will work out and which will not work out. I will not hesitate to share this knowledge with my customers, as I strongly believe that we can achieve success ONLY if our customers get success.

So, I am sure that our customers will be giving their support continuously irrespective of this price change.

Anyway, I prefer to focus more on developing/promoting our own products/websites than working on low-paying customers projects. Actually I have tested it in past few months. It is more profitable than working for low-paying customers. In this case, I welcome the investors for investing in our websites.

In January 2011, I had listed below things as To Do List.



As of now, I am thinking about doing below tasks. I have listed them without any specific order. It may change based on further analysis.


- Releasing an eBook about Web development.

- Including hot trends in QualityPoint Twitter application.

- Enhancing QualityPoint SEO Tools. Especially improve performance of keyword position finder and release a new feature frequently in domain analysis Tool which will be released in few days.

- Developing Smart Search Engines for specific categories (e.g live music events)

- Improving internal email marketing Tool and releasing it for public also.

- Adding New topics in Software Testing eBook.

- Running contests for promoting Time sheet sales while creating awareness about Time Management.

- Releasing our internal Affiliate marketing software to public also .

- Improving the integration between QualityPoint Forum and other QualityPoint Applications.

- Releasing internally using scripts such as "failed email collector" and any other cURL based scripts.

- Developing Job search engines with own crawling and indexing of data.

- Adding new modules (e.g Leave module, project and employee hierarchy) and per hour rate enhancement

- Enhancing product sales pages.

- Converting existing scripts into wordpress plug-in.

- Adding more products in our products page, and releasing them in the form of wordpress plug-ins also.

- Creating apps. for smart phones. (Atleast convert few of our existing products to fit with smart phones)

- Introduce Mobile friendly version of our websites.

- Doing more analysis about effectively using Google AdWords.

- Developing Social media marketing Tool. Initially we will include the social media sites which attracts more traffic and provide APIs. Later we will include more social sites step by step.

- Adding more topics and content in our Quiz and Easy learning.

- Tuning "Most viewed" feature of our social bookmarking site.

- Tuning the NewsBot content of our Social bookmarking site.

- Enhancing AutoTweet feature of our Twitter application with more functionality.

- Creating Video Demo for all our products to explain them to the users easily.

- Integrating Inventory module with our Time Sheet script.

- Taking steps to increase stability of our free onlline time sheet application. (Currently lot of users started using it)

- Taking steps to prevent spam posts in our Forum automatically. (currently it needs some manual work to prevent Spam in our Forum)

- Creating facebook applications to promote our easy learning game and Quiz.

- Taking steps to hire skilled engineers who are interested in joining with us to develop products that can dominate the world IT market in coming decade.

- Improving look & feel and navigation in our all our sites and blogs.

- Including our Social bookmarking feature in all link sharing services such as AddThis, AddToAny, etc.

- Either selling or Promoting ArtsPoint.Net

- Releasing many new Twitter based apps. apart from our already released applications.

- Automate the Press release process.

- Managing QualityPoint Group in LinkeIn effectively so as to attract more members.

- Enhancing our Affiliate management software.

- Developing Tools useful for freelance workers. Mostly it will help the freelancers to get projects without depending on the freelance sites which waste their time in poor arbitration process. (This task will be almost similar to development of our smart search engine)

- Effectively using cURL for doing data extraction and auto posting to enhance and promote our products.

- Systematically avoiding time wasting clients so that we will have enough time to spend for our genuine clients and for developing our own products. As part of this effort I am going to increase the upfront payment percentage so that only the people having clear requirement details will approach us.

- Develop our smart News reader script further by adding more finance news sources apart from yahoo news.

- Introducing Language changing option to few of our products. Currently plan to use Google translate to create the language specific files. In future we may tune them manually also.

- Effectively using great experience and knowledge gathered by our Team while developing a web application for automatically posting resume to more than 70 US job sites for our client. We will use this experience to develop similar tool for Indian market or UK market. Or, we will be developing a Tool for allowing the users to automatically post their links to lot of directories and search engines.

- Finding ways to use our expertise in Reverse Auction script development. (as of now, least priority)


We have done few things in this List, and few of them are in Pending state. And, most of the items in this list are not yet started.

And, I am planning to postpone the pending Tasks in this list for few more months or years. Because, most of the items in the list require skilled and experienced employees, and many tasks will take many months or years. But, we face high employees attrition rate. As a Start-up, retaining skilled employees for long time is difficult. In fact, I don't want to retain them forcefully(e.g Bonds). Because many corporates offer good salary which is much more higher than ours. So, I believe allowing our skilled employees to leave our company to join corporates will be the appropriate action I can do by considering welfare of them. And, it will help us to get new employees as they beleive joining our company will surely help them to reach corporate companies with good salaries in few months.

But it heavily affect our company from many perspectives. We used to spend lot of time and energy in training our new employees for many months so that they can start doing web development (php/mysql/wordpress/jquery) projects that are listed in my list. And, I had seen that most of the employees started searching other jobs immediately after getting trained. The new employees will again take significant time to learn the things, and they will also leave after few months. So, I found difficulty in completing my plans.

Since, the employees are leaving for higher salary, I had decided to hold these plans till the time where we too can offer the higher salary competitively.

So, I had tried various other models. e.g developing small websites and selling them thro' Flippa, and doing SEO, publishing News, Resume submission service, etc.

Among these different models, I found "Doing SEO" is most suitable for our company.

Because the new employees can learn SEO quickly and they can start their work in few days. And, even if the trained employee is leaving the company, it won't do any harm as the knowledge transfer process for SEO task is simple comparing to the web development.


Ultimately I found that high employee attrition rate won't affect us if we choose to do SEO instead of taking development works.


So, I have decided to focus more on SEO. Anyway I will be continuing few web development activities for our own needs and for our long term customers.

And, note that this is just an intermediate plan till we reach the time when we will be able to offer good salary to our employees so that they will be happy to work long term in our company.

Now, let me explain my plans about doing SEO.

I have many websites and blogs. First I want to focus on TheQuotes.Net

Let me explain the reason why I chose "TheQuotes.Net". I believe the domain name TheQuotes.Net is valuable, SEO friendly and easy to remember. And, lot of people like to read motivational Quotes irrespective of their country or age. We can understand it by seeing the search volume for Quotes related keywords in the Keyword analysis tools. And, we need not add the content frequently, and the content added today will be useful after many years also.

I have already done some initial on-page optimization for this motivational Quotes website. And, our Team has started promoting this website thro' social media also. We have created Facebook Fan page www.facebook.com/TheQuotesNet for this website.

And, I am putting lot of efforts to make sure that our Motivational Quotes site contains only the inspiring Quotes.

We are working on to create lot of Motivational Quotes Videos for promoting TheQuotes.Net thro' YouTube also.

And, I have taken initiate to send Free SMS Quotes for promoting TheQuotes.Net.

As page loading speed is more important for getting Good position in Search Engines, I have started taking steps for improving the page loading speed of TheQuotes.Net

Our AutoTweet feature is attracting many users so that TheQuoes.Net will go viral. Already more than 700 people are using this feature.

And, we are going to do lot of things to get quality backlinks. We are already doing Link Exchange. If you are interested we can add your link in this Quotes Sites.

I understand the tough competition for motivational Quotes related keywords and the Low CPC for the Quotes related keywords. But I am still seeing the opportunity as the Search Volume is very high. You can come to know about this fact if you do little research on semrush.com for the Quotes related sites.


So, I am holding most of our development works for few months till we promote our Quotes website site to reach top position in Search Engines for many motivational Quotes related keywords.

I will update the progress in few weeks. I would like to make our TheQuotes.Net as Most viewed Motivational Quotes Site in few months. I believe win-win approach is the only way to achieve it quickly. So, I welcome any suggestions/plans from anyone to promote TheQuotes.Net as Win-Win approach.

Recently I had planned to start doing SEO projects for our Customers. And, the initial response for our announcement is Good. So, we are planning to focus more on SEO projects. But we will continue our product development also once after streamlining this new SEO initiative.

 We would like to hire SEO Trainees to expand our SEO initiative. We will be arranging Interview on coming Saturday. Fresh Engineering graduates can apply for this job.  Other Graduates can also apply if they are really interested in taking their career in Web development and Web promotion path.
