Twitter retires REST API v1. We should use API v1.1 in our Twitter applications.

Twitter had announced that REST API v1 will not be available now. And, Twitter has asked the Developers to migrate to API v1.1.

Today, we are retiring API v1 and fully transitioning to API v1.1. Given the array of blackout tests, blog posts, Tweets and other updates, this should (hopefully) not be a surprise. Before I get into the slew of resources available for you, let me first say thank you for your cooperation over the last several months.
Based on the blackout tests and looking at the numbers, we can see that the vast majority of applications have transitioned to API v1.1. If you still have not updated your app and you want people to be able to continue using it, it’s not too late! Documentation is available here.
Additionally, here are other resources that we’ve pulled together to help make this transition more smooth:

We’re excited to bring this process to a close and to continue building a strong platform & ecosystem on API v1.1 and to make it even more valuable for you.

If you  are still using the old API, you will get below error message.

“The Twitter REST API v1 is no longer active. Please migrate to API v1.1. https://dev.twitter.com/docs/api/1.1/overview.”

And, if the changes are not done properly, then you will get below error message.

 Bad Authentication data [code] => 215 

If you are using as "statuses/mentions" in old version,  you need to use as "statuses/mentions_timeline".

The major differences between API v1.0 and v1.1:

1. API v1.1 is SSL only.
2. JSON is now the only available data format — XML, RSS and ATOM have been retired.
3. All requests must be authenticated via OAuth.

New features of Facebook Cover Application and Auto Tweet App. in TheQuotes.Net

Few weeks back I had published a post about our Facebook Cover Application. I had written about our plans of adding new features to the Facebook Cover Application. And, I had collected some feedback from the users.





Now We have implemented many new features to the Facebook Cover application.

• Now you can set the Cover to the Facebook Fan page / Business Page also, apart from setting it to your Facebook profile page. You need to click "Set to Facebook Fan Page" link under the Facebook cover image. If you own many Facebook Fan pages, you set the cover to the specific set of Fan pages by checking/un-checking the chekboxes.
• And, you can schedule the Facebook covers for your Fan pages. Visit this page to activate the automatic change of Cover images for selected Facebook pages at the specified time interval. First time you need to allow the Facebook application to access your Facebook Fan pages  for changing the cover. i-e you need to accept few Facebook Dialog screens. This Facebook application will randomly choose one cover from here (except few covers that belong to Seasonal topic), and it will be posted at the specified time interval. You can change the time interval at any time, and if you want you can deactivate this feature for specific Fan pages. This Free feature will be more useful for keeping your Fan pages active so that you can get more "Likes".
•  Now, You can automatically post Motivational Quotes images to your Facebook Fan pages at preset time interval. It will bring more Followers/Likes to your Facebook Page. Read more details here.
• You can choose Random cover by clicking this http://thequotes.net/quotes/facebookcover/randomcover.php
• We can search the desired Facebook cover image by navigating Tags. For example, you can get Facebook Cover Images for Holi, and Easter, etc.
• We can see Top 10 covers, and Recently used covers.
• We have added a Search box to find the desired Facebook Cover image. Send your suggestions to me for improving the search feature further.
• You can view this slide show to choose appropriate Facebook cover image. You can filter the images by choosing the Topics shown on left side. You can use "previous" and "next" buttons to navigate thro' various Facebook images. And, you can use the "Random" button to get randomly selected Facebook cover image. And, you can use the "Play" button for viewing all Facebook Cover images one by one till clicking "stop" button.

Highlights of Twitter Conference of Sam Pitroda , Adviser to the Indian Prime Minister on PIII

It seems Indian Government is also started using Social Media effectively.

Today (September 25th, 2012) we had seen a Press conference of Indian Govt Official on Twitter first time.


The Twitter press conference was conducted by Sam Pitroda who is the Adviser to the Indian Prime Minister on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations (PIII).


The Twitter conference started at 3:30 PM IST to discuss about "Democratisation of Information". And, this conference uses #DoI as hastag. And this hastag #DoI was trending for many hours in India.


Sam Pitroda uses the Twitter Handle @pitrodasam for this online twitter Conference.

Right now he is having 29K Twitter followers. Sam Pitroda is the key person in bringing Telecom revolution in India. Apart from being the Advisor to PM, Same Pitroda is an Inventor and Entrepreneur.


Sam Pitroda had started the conference by asking his Twitter followers to watch his YouTube video about "Democratisation of Information". And Sam explained the reason for using Twitter for the online conference.

Then Sam Pitroda has announced "#DoI" as the hastag for today's conference. And, he says, "I firmly believe that #Information is the 4th pillar of #democracy along with legislature, executive and judiciary"

Public #Information Infrastructure (PII) will transform India’s 1.2 billion people into 1.2 billion opportunities.
UPA Govt has various plans to build robust Information Infrastructure to democratize information on a scale that has never been done before UPA Govt also has political will to make it happen.
This will have far reaching implications on delivery of #public services, #Governance, #Education, #Health, #Agriculture, etc.

However, it will require new mindset and commitment of the young to change the course.

Question:Is democratization of info possible without a radical change in the mindsets of our legislators and bureaucrats?
Answer:No. But we need to start now. It will take time.

Question:What does #DOI "Democratisation of Information" mean for a villager who does not have access to information?
Answer: The purpose is to give them access to information

Question:how can wireless broadband internet access be scaled up to the ubiquity achieved by the STD booth that revolutionised telephony?
Answer:all 250,000 Panchayats will have fibre connectivity to ensure ubiquity


Question:Will DOI have the same fate as RTI? National security and till when will it be used to curtail info?
Answer:Certain sensitive information will have to be controlled by the government

Question:the project to connect 250k panchayats has been talked about for years-cud u tell us what is being done to speed it up?
Answer:Pilot projects on Panchayat connectivity already underway, hopeful it will be done in next 18 months


Question:Shouldn't information be the foundation for other three? (in reply to Sams' tweet about 4 pillars)
Answer:YES. However Information platform is needed to integrate ,create standards and improve access

Question:Why is computerization of tasks, performance monitoring and evaluation not being done in Ministries, Govt. departments.
Answer:We are infact doing exactly that! Delhi High Court is a good example.


Question:Appreciate the National Knowledge Network #DoI How can such a network be replicated amongst districts in a state? Any Plans?
Answer:NKN is already in all States upto Block level and State Governments have to leverage it

Question:why a separate infrastructure and investment is needed why can't the existing network be used ?
Answer:we are using all existing infrastructure and not duplicating! A million km of OFC already exists

Question:Why u think that democratization of information means only the information provide by Government?
Answer:Agree. It is not just govt. Education ,Health,Agriculture,etc is more for the people and by the people.


Question: I would want to use the data at http://data.gov.in in useful apps for people, but will it be updated with latest copies of it?
Answer:Work underway to get more data on http://Data.gov for citizens to develop relevant applications

Question:how can citizens contribute to this agenda?
Answer:citizens can develop relevant useful information and apps in local languag

Question:Sir please elaborate about NKN. The report has been submitted long ago but nothing substantial has happened. Situation now?
Answer:NKN is already operational, 850 institutions are connected, visit website nkn.in to get status update


Question:How will you go about executing the idea and in how much time?
Answer:Various dept will decide that. First there will be some concerns. However, I am sure after a while dep will be more open.

Question:250,000 Panchayats with OFC..any time line and budget allocation for the same?
Answer:Around Rs. 30,000 Crores in 18 Months

Question:All info would be made available or do restrictions apply?
Answer:Depends on the source of the info.


Question: sir in process to implement e governence what is biggest hurdle-power or lack of initiative?
Answer:Reengineering of processes is a big hurdle!

Question:Apart from connectivity, what concrete policy changes are planned to democratise information? What synergies with RTI?
Answer: It starts with RTI. To back it up, we need PII. And then provide access to real time info to ppl on demand.

Question:Why is internet access, which is a basic right in many countries, so expensive in India?
Answer:Hopefully prices will go down as we get more broadband capacity and OFC to panchayats


Question: will UPA deliver NOFN within this term?
Answer:NOFN fibre being laid by BSNL, PowerGrid, railtel, private players also being used to lay fibre

How Twitter is deciding a Page as Spammy?

Today I have noticed below message when trying a tweet one of my previous blog post about vWorker Review.

Oops! A URL in your tweet appears to link to a page that has spammy or unsafe content.

I couldn't understand why Twitter is saying the page as spammy or unsafe after allowing more than 2.6K tweets of this page.

I am not sure whether Twitter will be having any algorithm for detecting the spammy content. If it is having such algorithm, it should have blocked the URL before allowing 2.6K tweets of the URL.

So, I have to assume that someone should have done something for forcing the Twitter to mark this as Spammy.

I am curious to know how they were able to do this. I am wondering whether someone can block any tweets by saying it as spammy.

‘Post Tweets to Facebook’ feature in Twitter

Today I have noticed a new option in profile editing page of my Twitter Account.

This new feature is showing as ‘Post Tweets to Facebook’

This new feature will allow you to cross-post your tweets to Facebook as status updates.

Twitter note says that @mentions and @replies will not be sent, only ‘original’ Tweets.

Currently, People use third-party apps and plugins to cross post tweets into Facebook status. This built-in feature will make the Twitter users to cross post their Tweets to facebook easily.

This new feature of Twitter shows a rare moment of cooperation between the two social giants Twitter and Facebook.
